Tata Motors, Pune, India Various Design Positions



Tata Motors is strengthening its main Design studio at Pune (India), through recruitment of fresh talent for key Design positions. This expansion is being driven by the need to support aggressive growth targets for both the domestic and overseas markets.
All positions are based at the main studio in Pune, which works with 2 satellite studios located at Turin and Coventry.

All positions can be on fixed term contract or permanent employment.

Position: Lead Designers
Profile: You should have worked in a major OEM studio as a Designer, with a minimum 6-8 years experience in the design field. You should have experience of following at least one major project into production. Comfort with both digital (Photoshop, Alias) and physical modelling tools.
Responsible for managing the creative content for a specific vehicle platform and all model variants as well as facelifts, limited editions etc. required during product life cycle.
Key Responsibilities:
  1. Prepare the design brief alongside the design project/program manager.
  2. Giving input to designers for compliance to engineering feasibility and technical constraints.
  3. Ensuring timely preparation and release of data for visualisation and physical models for various design milestone presentations and reviews.
  4. Undertaking consumer and design trend analysis as well as competition benchmarking for specific platforms under your responsibility.
  5. Ensure design intent is maintained through the development cycle and into production.
  6. Mentoring concept designers to improve their skills in both creativity and productivity.

Position: Senior Designers
Profile: You should have worked in a major OEM studio as Designer, with minimum 4-5 years experience. Should have worked as part of a team for both conceptual and development process of design proposals. Comfort with both digital (Photoshop, Alias) and physical modelling tools.
Responsible for generating/maturing proposals for exteriors and interiors for a specific vehicle projects.
Key Responsibilities:
  1. Work on design brief prepared by lead designers by preparing and developing proposals.
  2. Giving input to junior designers for compliance with engineering feasibility and technical constraints.
  3. Mentoring young designers in areas of basic techniques and thinking skills.
  4. Be conversant and able to lead work on design models using clay, hard foam etc. for design iteration and maturation.
  5. Ensuring timely preparation and release of data for visualisation and physical models for various design milestone presentations and reviews.
  6. Undertaking consumer and design trend analysis as well as competition benchmarking for specific projects you are working on.

Position: Project Managers
Profile: You should have worked in a major OEM/Tier 1 supplier as Project Manager, Lead/Senior Designer for a minimum of 8-10 years with at least 4 years in Project Management role. Should have experience of following at least two major projects into production.
Responsible for managing the Project Delivery for a specific vehicle platform and all model variants.
Key Responsibilities:
  1. Lead the project from start of the project to launch.
  2. Prepare a Project Schedule and resource (manpower, models, etc.) plan at the beginning of every new project in consultation with a Lead Designer. Dovetail the same with overall programme schedule
  3. Ensure timely delivery of all key milestones for delivery from Pune or other studios.
  4. Be the face of design for all meetings with engineering, suppliers, marketing/product planning and also the communication channel for the same.
  5. Along with the Lead designer, manage design feasibility discussions with engineering and suppliers.
  6. Model and prototype planning and tracking
  7. Undertaking consumer and design trend analysis as well as competition benchmarking for specific platforms you are responsible for.
  8. Giving inputs to designers and digital modelers for compliance to engineering feasibility and technical constraints.

Position: Studio Engineer - Passenger vehicles
Profile: You have worked in the position of Studio engineer within a major OEM for at least 7-8 years with exposure to all stages of design evolution into tooling. We require an engineer who is a creative generalist rather than a technical specialist.
Responsible for supporting the evolution and finalisation of the vehicle package, ergonomics, sections, perceived quality deliverables with innovate solutions and proposals. You should have fair knowledge of parts manufacturing of parts made up of metals, plastics, glass, foam etc. (materials used to define skin of the car interior and exterior). You should have a fair idea of the regulations cars must meet. You will be the voice of design in negotiations with corresponding engineering functions to sustain the design intent through various stages of design development.
